Activities in the valley
There are many varied walking tracks for bushwalking in the more secluded parts of the farm properties and in the 2 adjacent National Parks- both the Gardens of Stone and the Wollemi National Park.
"Then slowly we crawled by the trees that kept tally
Of miles that were passed on the long journey down.
We saw the wild beauty of Capertee Valley
As slowly we rounded the base of the Crown."
- Henry Lawson 1891 from Song of the Old Bullock Driver
The 2 properties - Kurrajongs & The Poplars, are situated in the Capertee Valley, traditional country of the Wiradjuri people.
The properties offer one the opportunity to experience a unique landscape - a combination of breathtakingly majestic escarpments & soft rural farmland.
The Poplars encompasses the Ruins of the Oil Shale Processing Plant @ Glen Davis, which operated between 1938 &1952. It is the largest example of its type in the Southern Hemisphere.
This is all set in the second biggest canyon in the world & surrounded by the heritage listed Wollemi National Park, Gardens of Stone & headquarters to the Colo River, & the wilderness beyond. The Colo Gorge is 30 kms long & is concealed in rugged landscape, protected due to the tenacity of Myles Dunphy & the Colong Foundation for Wilderness Ltd.
The senses can be engaged in multiple pastimes- bushwalking, birdwatching, painting, photography, star gazing, observing unique flora & fauna.
On the other hand.......it is a remarkable place to chill out completely & truly engage the senses in peace & quiet. No mobiles, remote, private....3 hours from Sydney, but you could be 3 days......
In the vicinity there is also much to see....the old mining towns of Sofala & Hill End, Mudgee with its wineries, olives, cafes & shops, the charming township of Rylstone, natural treasures like Dunn Swamp, Nullo Mt. Airlie, Torbane etc
